Karina Smirnoff
Karina Smirnoff is an international dancing sensation. She is from Kharkiv, Ukraine. She was born on 13 March 1978. She is five feet five inches tall. She is the only child of her parents. Karina Smirnoff graduated from the Fordham University. She majored in information system programming and economics. Although Karina always wanted to study law and become a lawyer, but the destiny had decided something else for her. She became a global champion professional dancer.
Karina Smirnoff is the winner of Asian Open two times; US Open three times, US National Professional Championships and the Dutch Open five times. She has a passion for dancing. Her passion for dancing was further groomed by her excellent dance coaches that guided her. Her coaches were Donnie Burns, Espen Salsberg, Ralf Lepehne and Tone Nyhagen. Karina Smirnoff has also done a small role in the movie ‘Shall We Dance’. In the movie she shared the screen with Tony Dovolani.
Karina Smirnoff initially participated in the ABC reality show, ‘Dancing with the Stars’ in the third session of the show. In the show she showed up with actor Mario Lopez. In the show she turned out to be second as she lost to the tandem of dancer Cheryl Burke and NFL celebrity Emmitt Smith.
Karina Smirnoff is a star now. She was a finalist in the Blackpool Dance Festival. Slavik Kryklyvvy was her partner in the event. Karina had a passion for dancing even when she was very small. She started her ballet lessons at a very tender age of five years. At the age of seven she pursued her gymnastics and aerobics lessons but they did not interest her much. After that she went for skating. She loved it. But due to her weak throat, she had to discontinue the activity after four years. When Karina Smirnoff was in the sixth grade, she had to choose between the ballroom, which was her mother’s choice, and the piano lessons that were her grandmother’s choice. The choice for Karina was although quite difficult but she chose the ballroom because of her love for dancing. In the childhood, she was like normal girl. Even today, Karina Smirnoff bites her cuticles to get rid of stress. Karina Smirnoff was a great admirer of Cyd Charisse. When Karina reached the age of twelve, she moved to U.S from Ukraine and got the U.S citizen.
Karina Smirnoff turned out to be a fabulous dancer as she grew up. Karina Smirnoff also acted as the project director at Tornado Dance’s International Professional ballroom dancing event called the ‘Day and Night’. The event was held in the year 2006 at the Hollywood and Highlands Grand Ballroom. According to Karina Smirnoff, the highlight of her career thus far, was getting the second place at the Worlds with three dance partners and two of who have not yet gotten that far in their careers since. Karina Smirnoff has a dream of conveying the understanding of music through the body to deprived children and to a greater number of audiences
